Tomislav Mrkonjić is a Croatian footballer, currently playing for NK Rudeš in the Prva HNL as a Forward (association football).
In his hometown of Zmijavic, Tomislav has been affectionally nicknamed by locals as "Zmijavački Messi" (translated from Croatian as Messi from Zmijavac)[1]. He inherited the nickname based on his likeness (beard and hairstyle) to the famous Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi.[2]
Career
Mrkonjić earlier played with NK Imotski from 2015 to 2016 where he made 13 appearances and averaged 1,54 ppg. [3]. Markonjic also played for RNK Split during the 2015-16 season.
During the 2017-2018 football season, Mrkonjić returned to play for his hometown football club - NK Croatia Zmijavici (a team in the 3rd division of the Croatian Football Federation)[4]. During that season, Mrkonjić scored an impressive 11 goals and made 13 assists in 16 appearances [1] which statistically, meant that Mrkonjić was the best player in the 3. HNL - Jug in the 2017/18 season.[2]
