Timothy Jude Smith[1] (born in Sydney, 9 June 1982[2]) better known by his stage name, Timmy Trumpet is an Australian DJ and producer. He has become known internationally for his jazz elements in the realm of global dance music. Now as a combined DJ/instrumentalist, Timmy Trumpet is ranked in the top 3 DJs in Australia (ITM Poll), performed at Ibiza's Pacha and Miami's WMC, and mixed both Ministry of Sound and Pacha albums. Signed to Ministry of Sound, three of his singles have reached the No. 1 spot on the ARIA Club chart. Timmy performs over 200 shows per year, including major festivals and international clubs. He is the no. 1 ranked DJ in Australia according to the 2015 inthemix DJ Awards.[3]

Early life

Timothy Jude Smith, later known as Timmy Trumpet, is from Sydney. While a youth he attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. 'The Sydney Conservatorium of Music Access Program' included free weekly tutorial from Sydney Symphony Orchestra's Anthony Heinrich. According to an interview with Scene Magazine, Smith left the Conservatorium of Music in year 9 after "setting off a fire alarm". He moved to Carlingford High School in Sydney, a public school. However, he says the move to a public school system was positive as it allowed him to become more involved in jazz music.[4]

Career

Music

Timmy Trumpet has a number of tracks signed to Ministry of Sound, Onelove, Central Station and Neon Underground. His 2011 single "Horny", a collaboration with DJ Tenzin, hit number 5 on the Aria Charts in late 2011.[5]

In 2011 he had material included on the compilation Electro House Sessions 4 for Ministry of Sound, which he produced with DJ Rob Pix.[6] The album has 42 electro house tracks from DJs such as PNAU, deadmau5, Bag Raiders, Avicii, Tommy Trash, Afrojack, Tom Piper and Tiësto.

Starting in 2010, Timmy produced two consecutive summer albums for the clubbing brand, PACHA. The PACHA 2010 compilation was also mixed by Australian born Pacha Ibiza resident Sarah Main and the Platinum selling Jazz outfit from South Africa, Goldfish.[7] The CD featured tracks from Fedde Le Grand, David Guetta, The Temper Trap, La Roux, TV Rock and Dirty South. Timmy partnered with Dan McKie 2012's PACHA Summer Anthems with the album including Timmy Trumpet's single "Tromba Ye Ye Ye."

Timmy Trumpet spent the majority of 2011 touring in Australia before traveling overseas to promote his then new EP Trumpet. His early original singles such as "Sunset," "Nothing Between us" and "Sunrise" were all supported by Central Station Recordings. Central Station was Australia's original electronic dance music label, but is now owned by Ministry of Sound.[8]

Timmy Trumpet is now ranked the No. 1 DJ in Australia taking over mainstages across Australia with the king-size Future Music Festival National Tour as well as mixing this years much anticipated and renowned 'Ministry of Sound Sessions 10 CD' featuring his own No. 1 Aria Club Chart single 'Melbournia'.
