Time-displaced X-Men

The time-displaced X-Men, also known as the "Original 5" or "O5", are characters from Marvel Comics. They are Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel and Jean Grey, retrieved as their original teenager versions of the 1960s via time travel, and published as independent characters from the adult mainstream versions.

Publication history

The X-Men were first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, in the Uncanny X-Men comic. In-story, they were teenagers learning how to be superheroes. They were published and developed by several authors along the years, and by 2013 they were adult veteran super heroes. The time-displaced team was introduced as such in All-New X-Men vol. 1 #1, by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen, and brought to the present with time travel. They were kept as regular characters, as Bendis intended to explore their reactions to the fate of their adult selves.[1] The team was the main focus of the Battle of the Atom crossover, some months later. Bendis also used them for crossovers with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Miles Morales, that he also wrote.[2] This was one of the few crossovers between the Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Marvel universe; Bendis preferred to write them sparingly.[3]

All-New X-Men has a vol. 2 in 2015, by Dennis Hopeless and Mark Bagley.[4] The comic was cancelled after the end of the Inhumans vs. X-Men crossover, and the team was now published in the X-Men Blue comic. The teenager Jean also got a solo series after the end of ResurrXion, by Hopeless and Victor Ibanez, that explored her relation with the Phoenix Force.[5] The teenager Cyclops joins the Champions, a comic book focused on teenager heroes but unrelated to the X-Men mythos.[6] They guest-starred in the Venom comic, in the "Poison-X" arc. The story took the villains from the Venomverse arc and led to the Venomized crossover.[7]

The team will be featured in the Extermination crossover.[8]
