Tihlo is a unique food that originated from the eastern part of Tigray, northern Ethiopia and also from the Eritrean villages near the Ethiopian borders, like Senafe, Tsorona, Serha, etc...

Overview

Tihlo is a ceremonial side-dish made from dehulled barley, served with hot shiro wot, a sauce made from pulses flour and spices.[1] Tihlo is a unique food that originated from a small part of northern Ethiopia and from the Shimejana villages in Eritrea and it is now spreading throughout Ethiopia. It is made of barley flour and can be mixed with berbere, an Ethiopian spice mixture.[2]

Tihlo is served on special occasions such as holidays and for special guests. It is also served on wadding and other social gathering on Adigrat, Senafe in Eritrea

and serounding places.[3]
