Tigrisoma is a genus of heron in the family Ardeidae. Established by William John Swainson in 1827, it contains the following species:[1]
- Bare-throated tiger heron, Tigrisoma mexicanum
- Fasciated tiger heron, Tigrisoma fasciatum
- Rufescent tiger heron, Tigrisoma lineatum
The name Tigrisoma is a combination of two Greek words: tigris, meaning "tiger" and somā, meaning "body". Beautiful in flight, great markings on the feathers. Nest that mostly resembles jumble pile of twigs with openings large enough to allow eggs to fall through. Calls sounds like sick cow. A contrast in elegance and coarseness. [2]
