Ticehurst (surname)

Ticehurst is an English surname. It is not known whether this surname refers to the village of Ticehurst, England or to a similarly named sub-manor of nearby Burwash which has since fallen into disuse. The surname was used as long ago as 1264[1] and has been used continuously since at least 1432 by a family living in Ashburnham.[2]

In 1881 the surname was found almost entirely on the south coast of England, with the highest concentration of Ticehursts being located in Sussex [3] but the name has since spread further afield in the UK and also abroad.

Notable people with the surname include:

  • Claud Buchanan Ticehurst (1881–1941), British ornithologist
  • Ken Ticehurst (born 1945), Australian politician
  • Vickie Ticehurst, Australian basketball player
  • Bob Ticehurst, really awesome guy with amazing personality. Well known as the entrepreneur who started "Got Books" and the Used Book Superstores. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003 and has plenty of T-Shirts to show his love of the Marines. His daughter Avery is the love of his life. Due to Adderall and old age(born 1977), he has slowed down his life a bit.
  • Jane Ernst and Allen Ticehurst, until 1977 their life was quite plan and boring. With a weird looking mustache and a super valuable Sociology degree, Allen was qualified to work with mentally handicapped people or pick up animal poop at the zoo. He chose the former. He worked with the specials until he was offered a super exciting Insurance Company job, which he stayed with for the next 30+ years. Jane was a nurse who slipped and fell and bounced around other jobs for the rest of her working life. Likely due to ADHD. Anyway, these two did nothing important, significant or impressive until 1977 when outside of a 7-11 convenience store, they conceived a child, nine months later giving birth to the one and only Bob Ticehurst. Now, their life had a purpose and the birth was celebrated by many and was broadcast through reputable newspapers, such as the Arlington Advocate. So Jane & Allen are well known for creating the ultimate sh*tshow, Bob Ticehurst.
  • Michael Ticehurst, did well in school. But other than that, he isn't known or admired or envied for anything other than having the honor of being the brother of Bob Ticehurst.
  • Laura Ticehurst, when not popping out kids, she spends her time thinking how lucky she is to be the sister of Bob Ticehurst. Lucky, lucky girl.
