Tia Cherie Polite (born 1971) is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, VFX artist and cosplayer known for the 2015 film Dark Awakening, which she wrote, directed, and produced.

Polite went on to direct 2016's The Interrogation and 2017's Age of the Warrior[1].

Early life and education

Tia Cherie Polite was born 1971 in Washington, DC. to Jeannie Walker (Mother) and James Polite (Father) and later raised by Annie Bell Walker (Grandmother). She has two other siblings, Asmeret K. Habteab-Baker (Sister) and Sean Polite (Brother).

During 2008, Tia received a certificate in 3D Animation and Visual Effects from the 3D Training Institute, she graduated from Strayer University in 2011.

In 2008, Tia began performing as a costumed stage combat performer for the Guardians Performance Group (formerly the Jedi Guardians) where she performed and later choreographed Kenjutsu routines dressed as Star Wars character using stunt light-sabers.

As a Cosplayer, Polite and began using the moniker MzTiyah.[2][3] Polite began making some of her own props and costumes to use in her cosplay.[4]

During her time with the Guardians Performance Group, Tia performed in a dozen of live charitable events and conventions. She was elected CEO of the Guardians Performance Group in 2011 and served in that role until retiring from stage combat in 2013.

In 2010 Polite as a cosplayer made her film debut in Four Days at Dragon*Con[5] that featured interviews with fans, staff, performers, artists, stars and would-be superheroes

During Dragoncon 2011, Tia co-wrote the song Supergirl with Kevin Wendell Jones that featured his daughter Theresa Jones as Lil MC Reese and herself as MzTiyah.

In 2011, Tia began blending her various talents and interests together and began her foray into film-making by acting, writing and producing several independent short films, including an entry in the 2012 Washington DC 48

Hour Film Project called To Wrong A Right. In 2015, Tia entered into directing via the Star Wars inspired film Dark Awakening which she also wrote and acted in. The film also served as her first as a visual effects artist and editor.

In 2015 She hosted a film makers panel at Awesomecon[6]

In 2016, a documentary film recounts the story of Polite in The Journey of Tia. The film covers the Tia Cherie Polite's career via interviews. Archival footage and still photos, and narration by Polite.

In 2017 Tia founded her own production company, Black Rose Dagger Films, LLC.[7]

In 2017 she hosted a panel at Blerdcon called, Film Making: Concept to Completion.

In 2017 during the month of February, Polite was one the cosplayers featured on Black Girl Nerds for the 28 days of black cosplay.[8]

In 2017, the 4th Annual Funk Parade was Hosted by David "The Oh!" Oliver and Co-host Tia Cherie Polite.[9][10] She also hosted The Costume Lounge along with Wendell Smith Sr.[11][12]

In 2017 Cinemax sponsored the Urban Action Showcase and Expo[13] an all-action entertainment platform celebrating diversity and honoring the multicultural achievements within the blockbuster action genre, including adventure, fantasy, grindhouse, horror, sci-fi, and supernatural content. Tia Cherie Polite as the director and Kevin Wendell Jones as composer and sound designer won an award for their film, Age of the Warrior[14][15]
