Archbishop Jordan

Thierry Romain Camille Jordan (born 31 August 1943 in Shanghai) is a French clergyman and archbishop of Reims.[1] Thierry Jordan was born as a son of financier Pierre Jordan and his wife Henriette, born Roquebert

Career

Appointed coadjutor bishop of Bishop André Rousset of Pontoise on 6 October 1987, he was consecrated to the Saint-Maclou cathedral in Pontoise on 13 December 1987 that year and succeeded Bishop Rousset on 19 November 1988.

He took over the presidency of the Episcopal Commission of the Religious States of the Bishops' Conference of France in 1993.[2] He was elected to participate in the Synod of Bishops in 1994.[3]

He was appointed Archbishop of Reims on 20 July 1999. He took office on 26 September 1999, succeeding Bishop Gérard Defois, who was appointed Archbishop-Bishop of Lille on 2 July 1998.

He has been and still has many responsibilities within the Conference of Bishops of France: he was a member of the Secretariat for Relations with Islam from 1987 to 1991, a member of the Episcopal Commission of consecrated life from 1987 to 1993 , President of the same Commission from 1993 to 1996, President of the Canonical Committee from 1990 to 2004 and member of the Episcopal Commission of the ordained ministries.

On 25 August 2014, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the city of Saint-Louis (Missouri), he was invited to the commemorations, along with Prince Louis de Bourbon, by Bishop Edward Rice. The celebrations take place at the Sanctuary of St. Philippine-Duchesne of St. Charles.
