Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer, known as Theodore Boone: Young Lawyer in the UK, is a 2010 legal thriller and the first novel by John Grisham for middle grade children (8-13 year olds).[1] It is the first in a series about Theodore Boone. Grisham jokingly said in an interview that he wanted to catch up with Harry Potter, since his number one place was taken in the bestsellers.[2]

Plot summary

The book centers on the murder of Myra Duffy. Her husband, Pete Duffy is on trial for murdering her as they had million dollar life insurances. Theo's friend's cousin is the only witness to the murder, but there is a problem. He is an illegal immigrant and is scared that if he comes forward he will be arrested. When Theo eventually persuades him to come forward, with the assurance that he won't be arrested, the judge calls a mistrial. The book ends on a cliffhanger.

Sequels

John Grisham has written five more books in the Theodore Boone series, which were published between 2011 and 2016.
