The Western Journal

The Western Journal, previously known as Western Journalism, is an American conservative news and political website based in Phoenix, Arizona. The site was founded by political consultant Floyd Brown in 2008.

The site was acquired by Liftable Media, Inc. in 2014,[1] which also owns the political opinion website Conservative Tribune,[1] and the human-interest website Liftable.com.[2]

History

Western Journalism was founded by political consultant Floyd Brown in 2008, who also founded the Political Action Committee Citizens United[3] and served as executive director of the Young America’s Foundation.[4]

Western Journalism was patterned after the liberal blog Huffington Post (which was launched in 2005) and originally featured the writings of Brown and writers he admired.

Newsweek reports that the site has grown from receiving 1,000 page views a day in 2009[3] to more than 1 million during 2016.[5]

The mostly opinion-based site became largely news-based in 2014, the same year in which it was acquired by Liftable Media, Inc.[1]

Liftable Media, founded by Brown’s son Patrick,[6] owns not only Western Journalism, but also the political opinion site Conservative Tribune and the human interest site Liftable.com.

Western Journalism features “conservative, libertarian, free market and pro-family writers and broadcasters.”[7] and seeks to provide “God-honoring” content.[1]

Online Presence

According to Quancast.com,[5] Western Journalism went over 1 million unique visitors per day multiple times in 2016.

In a story on "fake news" spread on social media, The Intercept reported that: "Thanks to views sourced largely to referrals from Facebook, Brown's websites now outrank web traffic going to news outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, CBS News, and NPR, according to data compiled by Alexa".[8]
