The War of the Worlds is a three part drama produced by the BBC of H. G. Wells' science fiction novel of the first alien invasion story in literature. It follows George (Rafe Spall) and his partner Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) as they attempt to defy society and start a life together. It also stars Rupert Graves as Frederick, George's elder brother, and Robert Carlyle as Ogilvy, an astronomer and scientist. The drama tells their story as they face the increasing terror of an alien invasion, fighting for their lives against an enemy beyond their understanding. Filming began in Liverpool in April 2018 with an expected airing Christmas 2018.[1]
Production
The show is produced by Mammoth Screen for BBC One. The executive producers are Damien Timmer, Preethi Mavahalli, Peter Harness, Craig Viveiros for Mammoth Screen and Tommy Bulfin for the BBC.ITV Studios Global Entertainment will be responsible for international distribution.[1]The majority of the production financing was provided by Creasun in conjunction with SC Films International JV in China. Simon Crowe of SC Films is Chair of Uk Film Export the DTI agency for film export and television.
Filming locations
Locations include St George's Hall, Liverpool plateau transformed into Edwardian England, Eldon Grove, Vauxhall, Liverpool where an abandoned building has been used as a London location, Sir Thomas Street, Dale Street, Ainsdale Woods, Delamere Forest and Great Budworth village in Cheshire. [2]
