The Walters were an unsigned five-piece indie rock band from Chicago, Illinois, composed of Luke Olson, Walter Kosner, Michael Tirabassi, Danny Wells, and Charlie Ekhaus.[1] As of 2017 they had released two albums and three singles and were touring the United States with The Orwells.[2][3]

The band performed at prominent Chicago venues such as the Metro, House of Blues, Riot Fest Chicago, and the 2017 Lollapalooza Festival.[4] Their first EP, Songs for Dads, placed on the United States Viral Top 50 list on Spotify.[5] The Walters have described their music as "cardigan rock" and are generally classified as indie rock and new wave.[5]

History

The band formed in Chicago Illinois in 2014 after the band's guitarist and namesake Walter Kosner moved from Connecticut to Chicago in an attempt to attend DePaul University. After dropping out of the school, Kosner recruited the rest of the band members who eventually would form The Walters.[6] That same year the band released their first recorded effort, Songs for Dads. The release saw the band charting on Spotify's United States Viral Top 50 and catching the attention of The Orwells' lead singer Mario Cuomo, who considered it "some of the most solid songwriting I’ve heard in years, matched with harmonies that would make The Beach Boys nervous."[7] After the release of Songs for Dads the band worked with Canvasback Records to release two singles, entitled "Hunk Beach" and "I Want to Be Good".[4]

In a 2015 interview with Ben Niesdopziany from These Days[8] the band stated that the names of their EPs and singles are not always reflective of the music's content and were instead chosen for their humor or because the band liked the name.[4] During 2015 the band also recorded their second full-length effort, Young Men, which was also an independently recorded and distributed release.

This recording was followed up with an early 2017 release of a single and an accompanying music video entitled She's Gonna Leave You", working with producer Phil Ek.[9] In 2017 the band was slated to perform at the music festival Lollapalooza and also began touring with The Orwells.[2] After the tour concluded the Walters planned to record and release new music before that year's end.[10] On September 23rd, the band announced via their Facebook page that they "currently had no future plans to release new music as The Walters".[11]
