The Partridge Family Notebook was released in November 1972. It featured a cover that was similar to the standard school notebook. (The CD reissue added a picture of the family in their usual red velvet suits.) It contained a few cover versions of some classic songs such as "Walking in the Rain" written by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, and Phil Spector.

The album reached #41 on the Billboard 200 album chart. It stayed on the charts for 16 weeks.

"Looking Through the Eyes of Love" was released as the first US single, peaking at #39 on Billboard's Hot 100 and staying on the charts for 8 weeks. "Friend and a Lover" was the second US single, not released until April 1973, five months after the release of the album. Predictably, it did not fare well on Billboard's Hot 100, peaking at #99 and disappearing after just two weeks on the charts.
