The Oregon Trail (also known as The Oregon Trail 40th Anniversary Edition) is a 2011 version of the series The Oregon Trail. The virtual life game was developed by American studio SVG Distribution and published by Crave Entertainment on December 4, 2011 for the Wii and Dec 13, 2011 for 3DS.

It is the first in the series to use a 3D computer graphics engine.

Gameplay

The Oregon Trail gameplay

Like the other games in The Oregon Trail series, the main aim of the game is to journey across America to the Western frontier. This is achieved through careful resource management, planning, and leadership.

Motion controls are also utilized. In the Wii version, the player swings the Wii Remote during wagon travels to whip the oxen so that they pull the wagon ahead. There are also hunting sequences in which players use the Wii Remote's pointer to aim their rifle and shoot animals for food and resources or fishing.

Critical reception

GameSpot gave the game a rating of 3 out of 10, citing bland graphics, awkward controls and a confusing interface. Despite this, the reviewers stated that it could be a good educational tool.[1]
