The International Affairs Review is a journal published by the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University.[1] IAR is run by graduate students studying international affairs. The publication consists of both a website and an academic journal published biannually. The print journal is printed and published twice a year and can be found in Washington D.C. area bookstores and libraries. The website features short opinion pieces on contemporary topics in international affairs and foreign relations.

Topics

Global Communication features articles dealing with international connectivity. Articles address topics ranging from the importance of MOOCs as a foreign policy tool to the value of an internet citizen bill of rights.

International Development focuses on global efforts to improve livelihoods in the developing world. Articles address the needs of developing political systems to incorporate more women, using development assistance as an element of security policy, or rethinking China's role in international development banking.

International Science and Technology Policy deals with the role of science and technological development in the sphere of global politics. Articles have addressed space policy, economic exploitation of bodies in outer space, and the role of cyber defense as an element of national security strategy.

International Trade and Investment Policy covers the economic aspects of international relations. Pieces have address topics including the role of trade deals like NAFTA and the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership, the importance of central banking policy, and the role of illicit global finance.

Security Policy addresses the important role of the state in defending its interests within the international arena. Topics include analysis of military operations, discussion of the trajectory of rising powers like China and resurgent powers like Russia, and the role of missile defense systems in South Korea.

Book Reviews include reviews of recently published books in the fields of international relations.

Africa covers topics ranging from the foundations for peace in South Sudan to the barriers to democracy in Sierra Leone.

Asia address everything from nuclear brinksmanship on the Korean Peninsula to the policies to curb forest fires in Indonesia.

Europe and Eurasia covers topics ranging from EU-UK negotiations over Brexit to the importance of government stability in Uzbekistan.

Latin America articles range from dealing with the aftermath of recent earthquakes in Mexico to the peace deal in Colombia.

Middle East covers topics ranging from American foreign policy in Afghanistan to the public diplomacy battle between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
