The Independent is an under construction residential skyscraper in Austin, Texas. At a height of 690 ft (210 m), it will be the tallest building in the city once completed, surpassing the 683 ft (208 m) tall Austonian, another residential skyscraper. The building was proposed in 2014, began construction in 2016, and is slated for completion in 2019. Once complete, Austin will hold the title for having the two tallest all-residential buildings west of the Mississippi River, that is: the Independent itself and the Austonian. It contains 58 floors, 370 apartments, and is nicknamed the "Jenga Tower".[2] The 9th floor will contain amenities such as a heated pool, club room, playground, and dog park, while the 34th floor will contain a fitness center, yoga deck, and an outdoor lounge.[3]
