The Hippos were an Australian blues band formed in Sydney in 1985.[1] The band released four albums in their time together until they folded in the 1990s.[2][3]
Band members
The original band members included:
- Leszek (Lez) Karski - guitar, lead vocals. (Left to join the Bondi Cigars.)
- John Power - bass, lead vocals.
- Ace Follington - drums. (Left to join the Bondi Cigars.)
- Ian Jones - saxophone, percussion, backing vocals.
- Bridie King - keyboards, percussion, backing vocals.
Other musicians included:
- David McBride - trombone. (Hippocracy)
- Nigel Harris - trumpet. (Hippocracy)
- Tim Reeves - drums.
- Matt Morrison - drums.
- Rory McKibbon - guitar.
- Phil Groves - keyboards.

- Dark Age (single) (May, 1988) (WEA 7-258002) B-side was "Rodent Operative".[7] Entered at 45 on the ARIA Singles chart on September 11, 1988,[8][9] dropped out then re-entered at 49 a fortnight later,[10] went to 48 on October 2[11] then dropped out of the chart. A promotional video of the song was made at the Bridge Hotel in Sydney, NSW.

- Time and Motion (single) (September, 1989) (WEA 7-257458) B-side was "Ded Fred"
