The Heritage School is a co-educational, independent day school and segregation academy in Newnan, Georgia, serving preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high-school students and families from diverse communities.

History

In 1970, the school received a tax-exemption based on its non-discriminatory policy. [2] In 1982, the IRS had revoked the school's tax exemption because of its policies excluding non-white students.[3] In 2015, the school had 15 black students in a total enrollment of 414.[1]

Academics

In 2017, two students at Heritage were named National Merit Scholarships semifinalists.[4]

Athletics and clubs

Athletic fields include football, soccer, baseball/softball as well as a track. Several acres of the campus are used for the Outdoor Adventure Area and the Nature Trail, including a creek, climbing walls, and ropes course. There are four tennis courts. Heritage also has a swim team and golf team. The football team played its first game in August 2006.

Arts Program

Heritage has an active fine arts program for students of all grade levels. The program includes AP art classes.

The school band, Talons, performs regularly around the Newnan area. The choir has won various singing competitions and gives three concerts each year. he annual spring musical includes actors and singers from first through twelfth grades

The drama department produces shows and has won numerous titles at the regional and state competitions.
