The Daily Observer [1] is an English-language newspaper in Bangladesh.[2]

History

The Daily Observer[3] hit the stands in Bangladesh on 1st February in 2011 after now defunct Bangladesh Observer stopped publication in 2010. Following the independence from British rule, The Pakistan Observer came to the light in 1949. It had a great role in shaping public opinion of Pakistan, in particular, East Pakistan. After East Pakistan became independent as Bangladesh, the newspaper was renamed Bangladesh Observer and was published under Bangladesh Observer Group. The Bangladesh Observer was founded by Hamidul Huq Choudhury, who was born in Noakhali District, Bengal (subsequently East Pakistan and now Bangladesh) in 1901. The Bangladesh Observer had a strong, independent editorial policy that reflected both the personality its owner Hamidul Haq and editor Abdus Salam. It continued to ventilate people's grievance with courage. With the passage of time, the youth of the newspaper declined and eventually it was closed in 2010.[4] [5] Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury [6], the last editor of Bangladesh Observer,[7] again started the circulation of the Bangladesh Observer newspaper by the new name The Daily Observer in 2011.[8]

On 27 June 2017, a photo journalist was arrested by Bangladesh Police and charged with smuggling drugs according to him to extort money from him.[9]
