The Christian School at Castle Hills, formerly Castle Hills First Baptist Schools, is a private Christian school located in Castle Hills, a suburb of San Antonio, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International. The Christian School at Castle Hills serves approximately 600 students from pre-school to 12th grade.

History

Castle Hills First Baptist School was founded in 1981 by Pastor George H. Harris and several members of Castle Hills First Baptist Church.[1] Initially, the school started serving kindergarten through sixth grade, with a starting enrollment of about 100 students.[1] In 2017, the school reported approximately 600 students were enrolled from preschool through the 12th grade. The Christian School at Castle Hills severed its association with Castle Hills First Baptist Church in 2016, became an independent Christian school, and changed its name to "The Christian School at Castle Hills".[2]

Athletics

Castle Hills has received numerous Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division 4A Awards. The first of these was the boys soccer program in the 1997-1998 season. Other awards include two state championships for boys varsity volleyball in the early 2000s.[3] The Lady Eagles Varsity Basketball Team went to the TAPPS Division 1A Sweet Sixteen State Playoffs.

In 2003, they unveiled a multi-use gymnasium. It was subsequently called Victory Gym. Currently, it hosts volleyball and basketball games and includes a full weight room overlooking the Victory Gym.

Football program

Castle Hills debuted a new football program, a six-Man football team in 2009. Starting out with 10 players, it grew to 21 players in 2011. The Eagles made the playoffs in their first season in football. Castle Hills was crowned state champions back-to-back in 2013 and 2014. The current football headcoach and Athletic Director is Jeremy Samplaski and, in 2016, the school announced an agreement with Wheatley Heights Athletic Complex to play their home games at.

Fine Arts

The Castle Hills secondary choir received back-to-back state titles in 2010 and 2011.[3]

Traditions

Homecoming

Every year, The Christian School at Castle Hills invites their alumni to a themed Homecoming game during the school year. In the past, it had been during basketball season. However, with the addition of football, it has been moved to the fall. In the week during the Friday Homecoming game, festivities include games, special dress days corresponding to the theme, and class competitions.

See You At the POLE

Every September, the Castle Hills High School Student Council organizes a gathering of the school on a Wednesday morning for the purpose of school unity and worship.

Mission Trips

Every year in the fall, the senior class takes a trip to Mercedes, Texas, to serve the local community. Students put on a small vacation bible school for the kids. In the spring the junior class also goes to Mercedes, Texas.

Senior trip

The senior class of Castle Hills receives a week off of school to go on a trip paid for by the class fund. It has traditionally been to Panama City, Florida. However, the decision was made in 2008 to let the class select the destination. Recent selections were New York City and Disney World.
