The Art Newspaper is an online and paper publication founded in 1990 and based in London and New York City. It covers news and developments in law, tax, and the political and economic spheres of cultural policy. The publication is fed by a network of sister editions, which comprises around fifty correspondents in over thirty countries. It holds editorial offices in London, New York City, Turin, Paris, Moscow and Beijing.
Umberto Allemandi began the first paper in the network in 1983 Turin. Anna Somers Cocks founded The Art Newspaper for his publishing house in 1990. Inna Bazhenova, a mathematician, engineer, collector, and the publisher of the Russian edition of the paper, bought The Art Newspaper in 2014. Jane Morris served as editor from 2008 until June 2016, and Javier Pes was editor from July 2016 to September 2017. The current editor is Alison Cole.
Reviewers and commentators for the paper include: former Tate director Nicholas Serota, Performa founder-director RoseLee Goldberg; former Pompidou Centre director Jean-Hubert Martin; archaeologist Colin Renfrew; Venice Biennale curator Robert Storr, and artist Grayson Perry.
