The Art Institute of New York City was one of The Art Institutes, a system of over 44 education institutions throughout North America, providing education in design, media arts, and fashion. Founded in 1980 as The New York Restaurant School, and renamed in 2001, The Art Institute of New York City offered associate degrees and associate of applied sciences degrees in a variety of creative disciplines including fashion design, graphic design, and web design & interactive media.

Located at 218-232 West 40th Street in New York City's Midtown/Fashion district, The Art Institute of New York City was accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.

The Art Institutes system is a subsidiary of Education Management Corporation, which is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[1] The majority of the system's campuses are scheduled to close due to declining numbers of enrolling students.[2]

The Art Institute of New York City officially closed in 2017.[3][4]
