Thakkara is the Indian food chain based in Kuwait. The chain started its first branch in Fahaheel city in 2013 and second branch in Salmiya in 2014.[2] Thakkara is specialized in unique Malabari cuisine and it is the first chain to brand Malabari Food in Kuwait. Thakkara is known for its Thalassery biryani,[3] Pathiri, Chatti Pathiri, Appam, Idiappam, Varieties of puttu, Malabr Meals (Sadya), Unna Kai, Fish Molies as well as Kozhi Nirachath and Meen Nirachath.

Etymology

The name Thakkara came from the word Thakkaram, a colloquial used by northern Malabar Mappilas for the feast given to the Puthiya Maappila or Puthiyaappila aka the groom.[4]
