Spur 309 is a highway that connects State Highway 114 (19th Street) to Farm to Market Road 2255 (4th Street) in western Lubbock. The highway is known locally as Research Boulevard.

Route description

Spur 309 begins at an intersection with State Highway 114 in western Lubbock, with Research Boulevard continuing south through Hurlwood. The highway runs north for approximately one mile before ending at Farm to Market Road 2255, just south of Reese Center. Research Boulevard continues north before becoming a county dirt road.

History

The original Spur 309 was designated on May 22, 1956, from US 77 0.8 miles northwest of north city limits of Cameron, northwestward to a county road. The route was cancelled on August 27, 1959 as construction was complete. Spur 309 was designated on the route from State Highway 116 (now SH 114) to Reese Air Force Base on November 2, 1959. On June 30, 1961, the northernmost 0.114 miles were transferred to Reese Air Force Base. SH 116 would become part of SH 114 on December 14, 1977.
