Tetrakentron synaptae is a species of tardigrades. It is the only species of Tetrakentron which belongs to the family Styraconixidae.
The species were named by Lucien Cuénot in 1892 and both the genus and the species names are of Greek origin with the name Tetrakentron (Τετρακέντρον) meaning 'four centres,' as the bottom part have four of them, and synaptae, mainly which a tardigrade feeds on a species of a sea cucumber. It is the oldest genus where it still contains of only one species of Heterotardigrada into the present day.
The species are found in the North Atlantic.
It was discovered on a sea cucumber species Leptosynapta inhaerens in Roscoff, Brittany, France[1]
