Terre Haute North Vigo High School, also known as Terre Haute North (THN), is a public high school located in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Overview

Terre Haute North Vigo High was founded in 1971 as a consolidation of Terre Haute Dr. Charles D. Gerstmeyer Technical High School (1922–1971), Terre Haute James A. Garfield High School (1912–1971). Both Gerstmeyer and Garfield were involved in earlier consolidations as Glenn High (1914–51, 1953–61), Terre Haute Thornton (1936–39), Riley High (1911–13, 1917–61), the Terre Haute Girls Vocational High (1924–25) and part of Fontanet (aka Nevins Twp.) High (1917–61) student population were consolidated into Gerstmeyer; the remainder of the Fontanet population and Otter Creek High (1924–61) and Terre Haute Rankin (1936–38) were consolidated into Garfield. Garfield itself was the first high school in Terre Haute, opening in 1904.

After its founding, North added students from Terre Haute State High (a 'laboratory school' for Indiana State University) in 1978 and from Terre Haute Paul C. Schulte High, a Roman Catholic parochial school in 1977. The 'lab school' continued to educate elementary kids through 1992.

Academics

Terre Haute North is on trimester schedule. Students have five seventy-minute periods per day every day for twelve weeks plus six-minute passing periods. THN uses the Core 40 curriculum. Advanced Placement classes include Calculus AB, Physics (Mechanics), Physics (Electricity and Magnetism), U.S. History, World History, U.S. Government, Biology, Chemistry, English, Spanish, and more.
