Ten Green Bottles

Green bottles on a wall.

"Ten Green Bottles" is a children's counting out song that is popular in the United Kingdom.[1] In essence, the song is a single verse repeated, each time with one bottle fewer:[2]

Ten green bottles hanging on the wall
Ten green bottles hanging on the wall
And if one green bottle should accidentally fall,
There'll be nine green bottles hanging on the wall.

Nine green bottles hanging on the wall,
Nine green bottles hanging on the wall,
And if one green bottle should accidentally fall,
There’ll be eight green bottles hanging on the wall.

.................

One green bottle hanging on the wall,
One green bottle hanging on the wall,
And if one green bottle should accidentally fall,
There’ll be no green bottles hanging on the wall.

This pattern continues until the number of bottles reaches zero. The final verse ends with "There’ll be no green bottles hanging in the wall."[2]

The word "standing" or "sitting" is sometimes substituted for "hanging". Various other versions of the lyrics exist, many of them vulgar or satirical.
