Tara Sabharwal is a painter and printmaker who hails from New Delhi, India and is based in the USA since 1989. She left India in 1982, after completing her graduation at MS University, Baroda, to pursue a master's degree at the Royal College of Art, London. She has had over 40 solo shows in USA, UK, Japan, Germany and India.

Early life

Tara Sabharwal was born in New Delhi, India in 1957.[1][2]

Education

Sabharwal studied Painting. She did her B.A. (FINE) from MS University, Baroda, 1975-1980. with Professors K G Subramanian, Nasreen Mohammedi, G M Sheikh and Jeram Patel. She completed her Masters from the Royal College of Art in London with tutors Peter de Francia, Ken Kiff and Yehuda Safran, on a British Council scholarship in 1984.

Career

As a student in London, 1982-85, the Victoria and Albert Museum bought her work and she showed at Bernard Jacobson and Christopher Hull galleries. On returning to India she had solo shows at Art Heritage and Cymroza galleries and after three years left for the UK on the Myles Meehan fellowship. This was followed by the Durham Cathedral fellowship and shows at the Laing Art gallery, DLI Museum, and the Darlington Art Center along with teaching in Newcastle and Sunderland Art colleges.

In 1990 Tara visited New York and since then has lived in India, the UK, and NY, making paintings and prints and continuing to show internationally. She has had solo shows at Harewood House, Mercury, La Monte, East West, Rebecca Hossack, and Idler galleries, in London; Galerie Scherer, Michael Oess, Galerie Schwerpunkt, Martina Janzen, Kunstempel, and Arts Karlsruhe in Germany; Henry Street settlement, John Jay, Stephen Harris, Gallery 678, and Manhattan Graphics Center in New York City, Gertrude H Institute, Augusta Georgia and Manhattanville college, Purchase in USA ; and Art Heritage, Cymroza, Nazar, Sakshi, Art Alive. MS University, and Sumukha galleries in India. She has shown at HISHIO, Japan; VM Gallery, Pakistan; Orvieto arts festival, Italy; and Versailles, Chamalieres and Duoro Printmaking Triennials in France and Portugal.
