Tanya Burr (born 9 June 1989) is an English YouTuber[1], whose channel has 3.6 million subscribers.[2] [3]

Early life

Burr grew up in Norwich, Norfolk, England and attended Long Stratton High School and Notre Dame sixth form. After completing school, she studied to become a makeup artist, before getting a job working at the beauty counter in Jarrold's department store in Norwich.[4]

Career

YouTube

While working at Jarrold's in 2009, Burr copied the advice of makeup artist and sister-in-law Samantha Chapman and created a YouTube channel.[5] Burr left her job two years later to focus on her YouTube channel.[4]

Her earliest videos showed viewers how to recreate celebrity makeup looks. She later began making videos about fashion, style, and baking.[6] Burr has collaborated on videos with other YouTubers, including Zoe Sugg, Louise Pentland, Alfie Deyes, Tyler Oakley, and Joe Sugg.

As of February 2018, Burr has over 3.6 million subscribers to her YouTube channel and over 297 million video views.[3] She has over 3 million followers on Twitter[7], and over 3.2 million followers on Instagram.[8] She appeared on the cover of Glamour UK in December 2015,[9] and Stylist magazine in November 2016.[10]

Cosmetic brand

In 2014, Burr launched a cosmetics brand, through British retailer Superdrug, called Tanya Burr Cosmetics. Stylist magazine reported in 2016 that one Tanya Burr Cosmetics product is sold every two minutes.[10][11]

Writing

Burr has written three books with the help of a ghostwriter[12]. Her first book, Love, Tanya, features tips on beauty, vlogging, and baking. It was released by Penguin Books on 29 January 2015.[13] She released a cookbook titled Tanya Bakes on 30 June 2016.[14] Her third book, Tanya's Christmas, was released on 19 October 2017[15].

Acting

Burr acted in the short film Disconnect in 2017.[16][17] She made an appearance as an extra in Sky One’s Bulletproof. She is making her stage debut in May 2018, in a revival of Judy Upton's Confidence. She plays the lead role of Ella.[18][19]
