Life and career

Early life and education

Tetlow was born in New Orleans, to her father Louis, who was formally a Jesuit priest, and her mother Elisabeth.[1][2] Tetlow went to Tulane University and graduated in 1992. Several years later, she graduated from Harvard University, with a law degree.[3][4]

Career

After graduating, Tetlow was a federal prosecutor, dealing particularly with cases involving domestic violence and family law. She became a part of the faculty for Tulane University in 2005, and kept this position for the subsequent 10 years. She eventually became the chief vice president and Chief of Staff at the university. In addition to her involvements with law, she also helped raise 7 million dollars to rebuild libraries following Hurricane Katrina, in 2005.[3]

On May 2, 2018, Tetlow was elected as the 17th president of Loyola University New Orleans, following the retirement on Kevin Wildes, the previous president. Loyola's governing board selected her between 3 finalists.[1] She is the first female to become president of the university. In addition, she is the first non-Jesuit to hold the position; all of the previous presidents had been Jesuit priests.[3][2]

Relationship and marriage

Tetlow is currently married to Gordon Stanley Stewart. The two of them met for the first time at a British-American Project conference in England, in November 2005, at which time Stewart was married to a different wife and Tetlow had a boyfriend. The next time they met was at another conference in England, in November 2007. Subsequently, they started a relationship; by this time, Stewart had divorced his wife and Tetlow was no longer dating.[4] They had a wedding on October 3, 2009, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Tetlow was 37 at the time, and Stewart was 41. The ceremony was performed by Tetlow's uncle, Joseph A. Tetlow.[4]
