Tamer el-Refai

Colonel Tamer Mohamed Mahmoud el-Refai (born 23 July 1973) is an Egyptian official in the Military Intelligence and Reconnaissance Agency who currently serves as the Military Spokesperson for the Egyptian Armed Forces, replacing Brigadier General Mohamed Samir on January 1, 2017.

Early life and military career

El-Refai was born on July 23, 1973, and attended Ismail al-Qabbani Secondary School in Hadayek el-Qobbah. He later attended the Egyptian Military Academy in October 1991, from which he obtained his bachelor's degree in military sciences. He graduated from the Academy on July 21, 1994, after which he joined the Armored Division of the Egyptian Army. Later on as Lieutenant, el-Refai joined the Military Intelligence and Reconnaissance Agency of the Armed Forces, where his work focused on data analysis. He went on to complete courses in South Africa, Greece, the Netherlands and the United States, and obtained his master's degree from the Egyptian Command and Staff College.[1]

On January 1, 2017, Sedki Sobhy, the Minister of Defence and Chief-of-Staff, appointed el-Refai as the third Military Spokesperson for the Egyptian Armed Forces.[2]

Medals and decorations

Among el-Refai's military decorations are the First Class Military Duty Decoration, the Longevity and Exemplary Medal, the Silver Jubilee of the October War Medal, the Golden Jubilee of the July Revolution Medal, the Silver Jubilee of Sinai Liberation Medal, the 25 January Revolution Medal, the 30 June Revolution Medal and the United Nations Medal.[3]
