Tall Stories is the 1991 second album by Johnny Hates Jazz.[1] Released more than three years after JHJ's debut album, Tall Stories features erstwhile producer and songwriter Phil Thornalley as lead singer, following the departure of original frontman Clark Datchler. On the eve of the album's release, Thornalley and keyboardist Calvin Hayes were involved in a serious car crash that depleted the band's momentum. Once they recovered, the album was a commercial flop,[2] and the band called it quits.[3]

The album featured contributions from XTC's Dave Gregory (lead guitar) and Kasim Sulton of Utopia (backing vocals).
