2018 Taiwan Football Premier League

Taiwan Football Premier League (Chinese: 台灣企業甲級足球聯賽), often abbreviated to the TFPL, is the top-ranked division in the Taiwanese football league run by Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA).

History

The Taiwan Football Premier League was founded in 2017 after the folding of the then highest-ranked National First Division Football League (later Intercity Football League).[1]

Competition Format

The Taiwan Football Premier League's schedule runs nearly year-round from January to November. Teams compete in a series of four round-robin tournaments, each composed of seven games, that take place from January to April, April to May, May to August, and August to September.[2] After the 28 game schedule is complete, the top four teams overall teams compete in the annual championship in October. Using a two-leg series format, the top two overall teams play for the league title and an automatic berth in the following year's AFC Cup, while the third and fourth place teams compete for the third place title.

For the 2018 season, four teams have taken part in a qualification tournament from to compete in the league. The four teams competing in the inaugural qualification tournament were Ming Chuan University, Tainan City, Taicheng Lions and Bear Bro Ilan. Tainan City F.C. and the newcomers F.C. Taicheng qualified, letting Ming Chan University F.C. and Bear Bro Ilan F.C. out of Taiwan's top league door.

Teams

The Taiwan Football Premier League comprises eight teams, each of 30 players. It appears that the league plans to operate with a promotion-relegation system, but it is unclear as to with which lower leagues that relationship is will be established.
