T. Chitty Babu

T Chitty Babu usually referred to as Chitty Babu is an Indian businessman from Nagercoil , based in Chennai and founder of the real estate developer company Akshaya Homes Pvt Ltd in 1995. A first-generation entrepreneur, T Chitty Babu ventured into the world of business with just Rs. 10000 in his pocket and plenty of self-conviction, confidence and clarity in what he wanted to do. Being a civil engineer by profession, the realty space was a natural attraction; but more than a profession, it was his passion for creating world-class living space for millions that gave shape to his ambition.

22 years into the journey, today, his company Akshaya stands testimony to his achievements. He has established Brand Akshaya as one of the top realty brands in the industry with pioneering benchmarked practices.

T Chitty Babu believed that strong foundation is a must not just for the buildings he has built but for his organisation as well. He gave shape to brand Akshaya through an unflinching and ‘UnCompromise’ attitude that percolates through all aspects of the business.

A man of action, he believed that a well-informed customer is an asset to the brand, and came out with “Akshaya Home Facts” – a guidebook on home-buying, outlining the rights of the customers and clear-cut documentation of all the land records, property approvals and government clearances. This early adoption of a transparent and unambiguous approach has earned him customers for a lifetime.

Not content with limiting these best practices within his organization, he has spearheaded these initiatives across various industry bodies as well, in different avatars. He has headed key national roles in different industry bodies like the CREDAI, CII, IGBC and has contributed immensely to the development of the realty sector through active engagement with government and regulatory bodies.

Recognizing his efforts in getting the entire Tamil Nadu Chapter members of CREDAI to sign in to the Code of Conduct (COC), a self-regulatory and binding moral and ethical code of conducting business amongst members, CREDAI asked him to head two specially created cells at the national level - The COC (Code of Conduct) that all developers needed to sign up to be part of this industry body and the CGRF (Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum) that helps address quality and service delivery to customers.

Currently, Mr. T. Chitty Babu is also the Chairman of CII Smart City and member of the CII National Committee on Real Estate & Housing 2015-16, Chairman of COC (Code of Conduct) & CGRF (Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum) of CREDAI, Member of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chairman of Best Practice at CREDAI. In the last decade, he's held many key positions in CREDAI including that of National Secretary, President – Tamil Nadu and President – Chennai. He's also a Founding Member of IGBC, and former Convenor of the Infrastructure Panel of CII Chennai.

His ethos of upholding transparent and ethical business practices has won him various recognitions and awards – CNBC / CRISIL awarded Akshaya for ‘Best Legal Systems’ for four years in a row, and NDTV gave Akshaya a Special Recognition Award as the ‘Most Transparent’ developer in the country, in addition to CNBC /CRISIL awarding him for the ‘Highest Transparency’ in the realty sector. Being bold and decisive, he declared in 2011 that all projects by Akshaya will be ‘Green Buildings’, and he is the only developer to put up all his projects for the CRISIL – Real Estate Star Ratings (which gauges the risk, feasibility and transparency of the project) and shares that information irrespective of the ratings with all stakeholders including customers.
