Thandavarayapuram Ramaswami Pachamuthu (better known as T. R. Pachamuthu) is an Indian educationalist, businessman and politician, best known as the founder and chancellor of SRM Institute of Science and Technology.[1]

He was born in Thandavarayapuram, Attur on 24 August 1941. He comes from the Tamil Nadu community of Parkavakulam.[2]

He is the founder of the political party Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK). He is also the founder of The New Generation Media Corporation (Puthiya Thalaimurai magazine, Puthiya Thalaimurai TV and Vendhar TV). He also runs transport service SRM Transports,[3] and electronics company on solar energy, Green Pearl Electronics.[4] He also created a medical research hospital named 'SRM Institutes for Medical Science' (SIMS).[5]

Honours

On 19 February 2010, PaariVendhar was awarded an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) from Birmingham City University for his work in the field of engineering and technology education.[6] He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics,[2][7] and is a qualified chartered engineer.[2] He is an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers.[8]
