T.M. Landry College Preparatory (also known simply as T.M. Landry) is a co-educational, private college-preparatory high school in Breaux Bridge. T.M. Landry College Prep is an independent, year-round college preparatory school, grades K-12. In 2017,[1] students from TM Landry College Prep graduated and are headed to top universities in the country.

History

Michael and Tracey Landry had the first day of school In June 2005. The school started off with five students called "black troublemakers." This program is for intellectual, "out of the box" thinkers who want to pursue a serious, purposeful education, with the ultimate goal of achieving success in college and beyond.

Admissions

Admission to TM Landry is selective and enrollment is open to all K-12 graders. Information on the admission process is available on TM Landry's school profile. 142 students are enrolled in the school. This consists of an average class size of 6 in the primary school and average of 12 in middle and high school.[2]

Support and funding

T.M. Landry is based on a private school model that takes into account the individual needs of the student in order to create a solid foundation. This model is a flexible, Montessori education.[3] This model was developed in thought that education is key to the development of world peace.

Media

TM Landry has been the subject of many national news features. Local television news outlets in Breaux Bridge and Louisiana have profiled the school. The school became the focus of national media attention in December 2016 after one high school senior was accepted into Cornell University.[4][5] TM Landry students have been accepted into other prestigious schools, including: Harvard University, Boston University, and New York University.[6] TM Landry boasts a 100% graduation average and a 100% 4-yr. college acceptance rate.

School programs

TM Landry structures leadership through four CREAM. They require for students to have a minimum ACT of 24 and GPA from 3.5 to 4.0. The students gain leadership characteristics and are shaped into better people from community service.

Honors Math Society

This is an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics. Math is essential to high school education. Thus, TM Landry requires students to have a minimum of a 24 on the ACT. They also have to do community Service, and once again hit on leadership characteristics.

Summer programs

During the summer, students only have a 5 day summer break. Since the school is year-round, the students have an advantage. The school outlines that the students must pass three dual enrollment courses, during senior year, and their courses must be taken on university campuses. in their junior and senior year, they participate in independent study programs which allow juniors and seniors with faculty mentors an opportunity to work in an area of common interest. Recently, students have attended programs at Wellesley College and St. John's University. Many students take courses during the summer at Yale, Harvard, and Brown.

TM Landry Alumni Program

Due to the school's emphasis on economics, the TM Landry Alumni Program was launched in 2005, before the school officially became a school. Michael Landry has said that the program began as tutoring program. One of the requirements of Landry, is that graduates must come back to Landry as a volunteer mentor to help throughout the year. The school visits its graduates on their college campus. Thus, even while graduates are in college, they are still part of Landry. Most importantly, students have Stock Portfolios and they shadow local bankers to learn about Accounting and Investing. TM Landry was listed #1 in Louisiana's school system by BlackBoot in their list of "Top 10 schools to be Proud Of" [7]
