Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood (Urdu: مخدوم احمد محمود) is a prominent Pakistani politician belonging from District Rahim Yar Khan situated in South Punjab. He has numerously been elected to the Punjab and National Assemblies on PML-N and PML-F tickets. In the end of 2012, President Asif Ali Zardari declared him Governor-designate of Punjab.[3]

Early Life

Ahmed Mehmood was born to a notable political family in 1961. His father was Makhdoom Syed Hassan Mehmood who was a notable politician and also was elected as opposition leader. Ahmed Mehmood's grandfather was Makhdoom Ghulam Meeran Shah, who was also a Sufi Saint. Makhdoom Ghulam Meeran Shah had three sons. The other two were Makhdoom Hussain Mehmood and Makhdoom Syed Iqbal (SHAHEED). Shrine of Ghulam Meeran Shah is situated in his hometown Jamal Din Wali, a town of Tehsil Sadiq Abad in District Rahim Yar Khan. Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood is sajjada nasheen of that shrine.

Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood has many followers in district Rahim Yar Khan in almost every constituency. This also makes his personal vote bank more than any other politician of district. He was elected as District Chairman in 2001. Later he resigned in 2005. In Local GovernmentElections of 2015, He made his son almost winner with 66 seats in district on Ticket of People Party. But his biggest rival Choudhary Muneer Hidayatullah made a powerful political stand to make District Chairman from PML-N. Later Ahmed Mehmood's son was defeated and Azhar Laghari of PML-N became the District Chairman of Rahim Yar Khan District.

On 25 December 2012 he took oath as 29th Governor of Punjab. He resigned from the post of the governor on 13 May 2013 after PML-N swept the elections but president rejected the resignation.[4][5][6]
