Swarnamalya is an Indian actress and TV anchor. She is also a trained Bharathanatyam dancer. Over the years, she has anchored several shows, acted in films across various languages and performed at many stages all over the world. She is a famous classical dancer. She received the award 'Yuvakala Bharat' at the age of 17. She first gained fame from the Sun TV show Ilamai Pudhumai.

Early life

She is from Tamil family. She is a Sociology graduate from MOP Vaishnav College where she was the student President. She went on to do her Diploma in Acting for Camera from San Jose State University, California, United States. She also has a Masters in Bharathanatyam and Ph. D in Dance History from Madras University. She received initial training with Smt. K. J . Sarasa for 10 years, and had her further learning with Bhagavatulu Sri. B. Seetharama Sharma of Kalakshetra.

Film career

She started out performing in stage plays . Later, she made her film debut through Maniratnam's Alaipayuthey, where she played the role of Shalini's elder sister Poorni. Later on she moved on playing supporting roles in films like Mozhi and Engal Anna.

Television career

She began as a television anchor in Sun TV's show Illamai Pudumai. She also was the anchor of Vijay TV's Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru Part 2. Later on she began acting in serials starting with Anbulla Sneghithi alongside Anu Hassan. After this, she also acted in serials like Bharathiraja's Thekkathu Ponnu, Jaya TV's Vandhaale Maharasi, Revathi's Yaathumaagi Nindraal and also played a small role in Sun TV's Thangam.

Personal life

Swarnamalya got married in 2002 to Arjun. After marriage, the couple moved to United States and reportedly within one year of her marriage, Swarnamalya returned to India to act in movies. Reportedly, this eventually led to their divorce.[1]
