Susan Brown (mathematician)

Susan North Brown (22 December 1937 11 August 2017) was a professor of mathematics at University College London.[1]

She won a first at the University of Oxford, and completed her doctorate there on theoretical fluid mechanics in 1959–1964. After spells at Durham and Newcastle, she moved to UCL in 1964. She became a professor in 1986, and possibly the first female professor in applied mathematics in the UK.[2] Her most famous work was in the theoretical aspects of fluid dynamics. She retired in 2003 and became emeritus professor.[1]

Death

Brown died on 11 August 2017, aged 79, in London.[3]
