Super Burnout[lower-alpha 1] is a motorcycle racing video game developed by Shen Technologies SARL and co-published by Atari Corporation and Virtual Xperience exclusively for the Atari Jaguar on North America and Europe in 1995.[1][2] It was also published on Japan by Messe Sansao in the same year.[3]

Heavily inspired by arcade titles such as Sega's Super Hang-On and Namco's Suzuka 8 Hours respectively, Super Burnout is a arcade-style racer where players takes control from any of the available motorcycles against other CPU-controlled opponents, with heavy emphasis on pseudo-3D sprite-scaling graphics at a high frame rate.

Super Burnout received mixed to posivite reception when it launched, with critics praising various aspects such as the controls, sound and gameplay but was criticized for its lack of originality, while many were divided towards the graphics. Retrospective reviews in regards to the title have been more positive.

Gameplay

Similar to its inspirations, Super Burnout is a racing game that uses a behind-the-motorcycle perspective. The player races several tracks, however, there is no time limit and checkpoints to extend time limits. There are six bikes to choose from at the beginning of the game, each one varying in their status, with a seventh bike that can be unlocked by either getting a high rank on the championship mode or via a cheat code. Each time the player crashes into an obstacle or with another bike, he is instantly respawned into the trackfield without pausing. There are also eight tracks to choose from outside of championship mode, rated on technicality, semi-technicality or high speed. There are four gameplay modes in total to choose from.[4]

Dave Halverson of GameFan gave positive review to the game, praising the graphics and controls, remarking that "if you're looking for some good old fashioned racing, Jag style, Super Burnout should be your next purchase".[23]

Next Generation reviewed the game, and stated that "Burn Out is essentially straightforward racing at its best, but those who are looking for extra action won't find it here."[17]
