Sultan Ibrahim Larkin Stadium, is a football stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, Malaysia currently under construction. It was named in honor of the state's present ruler, HM Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and as homage to team's present home ground, Larkin Stadium.[1]

As the new home of the Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C. of Malaysian Super League, it is set to replace Larkin Stadium which has housed the present team and the previous incarnation of Johor football teams of the past since 1964. Slated to be opened before the end of the year 2018, Sultan Ibrahim Larkin Stadium is owned by the club. The total cost is estimated at MYR $200 million, as of January 2016.[2][3]

Design

Inspired by the banana-leaf, the final concept and design was unveiled by HRH Tunku Ismail in a ceremony held in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The new stadium will span 140,000 square meters with a total built area of 70,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 40,000 people.[4][5]

Red, blue and white LEDs to be installed outside the stadium for night time illumination.[6]

An integral wind tunnel testing for the design of stadium was conducted by Guangdong Provincial Academy of Building Research Group, a subsidiary of Guangdong Construction Engineering Group Co Ltd.[7]

Despite the stadium still being under construction, they have secured RM5 million from the sales of 10 corporate boxes in mid January 2018.[8]

Construction

With the cost of the construction of a new stadium within the planned JDT Sports City is estimated between RM180 million and RM200 million, the Sultan of Johor has granted the funds needed for the construction of the project.[9]

Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd has been given the responsibility to build the stadium. Upon its completion, the new stadium will house the main squad of the club. Besides that, the stadium will also incorporate the club's headquarters, training centre and a megastore.

In January 2017, the club announced that the construction has been delayed by few months and to be completed between July and year end of 2018 following adjustments made by HRH Tunku Ismail on the stadium’s location, technical and design changes.[10][11][12]
