Sukma is a town in Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, India.

Geography

It is located at 18°24′0″N 81°40′0″E / 18.40000°N 81.66667°E / 18.40000; 81.66667 at an elevation of 197 m above MSL.[1]

Location

Sukma is connected to Jagdalpur by National Highway 30.

Transport

The only transport systems available are in the form of road transport. Buses play a major role in public transportation, and are available for Raipur, Hyderabad, Bhilai, Bilaspur, Vijaywada, Jagdalpur, Visakhapatnam. Other modes of road transport include jeeps and taxis.

The nearest rail head is at Dantewada, while the nearest airport is in Jagdalpur.

About Sukma

Sukma district is a part of the "red corridor", the belt affected by the Naxalite–Maoist insurgency. This region has been under continuous attack by the Maoists, who have been targeting police personnel and political leaders. There has been numerous attack on army, crpf and police personnel. 2013 sukma attack and 2017 sukma attack is well known. Yesterday also 9 CRPF personnel killed after Naxals blow up vehicle in Sukma.
