Studio Moderna

Studio Moderna Group is an e-commerce and direct-to-consumer advertising company, primarily operating across Central and Eastern Europe.[1]

After a success with a computer company, which was established with a group of friends, Livija Dolanc and Sandi Češko started in April 1992 their small family company. The company was launched in Slovenia with the idea to start a distribution of Kosmodisk, a product against back pain. Livija and Sandi were sharing a great passion for perfection and being the best in the business. They built a winning business model and surrounded themselves with a great team, which led the company to the top.

In 1993 and 1994 Branimir Brkljač and Daniel Hubman have joined Studio Moderna, which has grown into one of the leading brand oriented and omni-channel direct-to-consumer retailer in Central and Eastern Europe.[2]

The company today operates throughout Central and Eastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine) as well as UK, USA, Canada, and it employs around 8000 people.

Funding

In 2011, global growth equity firm General Atlantic acquired a minority stake in the company, joining Insight Venture Partners, Templeton Strategic Emerging Markets Fund III, and JH Partners.[3]

Brands

Studio Moderna is also a brand owner. Kosmodisk is a back pain relief device from Slovenia, and was the first product the company sold.

Its retail chain Top Shop comprises 20 different websites, live TV shopping, and its own retail stores. Dormeo is a mattress and bedding brand. Dormeo launched Italian-made memory foam mattresses in 22 countries and has expanded into a range of home products for bedroom and bathroom. The company markets Dormeo Octaspring, a memory foam spring mattress technology, in the USA,[4][5] Canada, and Japan.

Based on the Dormeo success story many new brands have followed: Delimano (a range of Italian-made ceramic-coated cookware), Walkmaxx (innovative and comfortable footwear), LiveActive, Wellneo, Rovus. Brands are the backbone of Studio Moderna's successful growth and also international expansion.
