The Stockport and Woodley Junction Railway was incorporated on 15 May 1860 to build a 3 mi 72 ch (6.3 km) Stockport branch from the main line at Woodley, the first line to be run by what was to become the Cheshire Lines Committee.[1] It was transferred to the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire, and Great Northern Railway companies under Cheshire Lines Transfer Act on 5 July 1865. In 1866 it was joined to the Stockport, Timperley and Altrincham Junction Railway to the west and from Woodley to Godley to the east.[1]
