Sticker scam

The sticker scam is an alleged scam in which a burglar or burglar's accomplice places a sticker on a property to mark it as vulnerable.[1][2] Supposedly, the burglar can then more efficiently burgle the property at a later time.[1][2]

Press reports suggest that the stickers used are intended to look innocuous, so that even if the property's owner or tenant spots the sticker, they may leave it in place. The stickers typically advertise the services of a locksmith.[1][2]

However, such stickers are not necessarily an indicator of impending burglary.[3] Some legitimate locksmiths do use such stickers,[3] as do some rogue locksmiths.[4][5]
