Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis, also known as the purpleback flying squid or purpleback squid, is a species of cephalopod in the family Ommastrephidae. It is native to tropical parts of the Pacific and Indian Oceans where it is found to depths of about 1,000 m (3,281 ft).[3]
