Stereotypes of Africans

Stereotypes and generalizations about Africans and their culture have evolved within the Western world dating back to the colonial years of settlement, particularly after slavery became a racial institution that was heritable.[1][2][3][4][5]


Common stereotypes

One country

One of the common tropes of Africa is that it is a single country as opposed to 54 countries.[6][7][8]

Backwardness

Another common stereotype is that the continent is the epicentre of a primitive culture and poverty.[9][10][11][12] [13][14]

Fraud

Stereotypes of Nigerians involve things like online fraud.

Jungle

That Africa is a giant game reserve.[15]
