The State Basketball League Coach of the Year is an annual State Basketball League (SBL) award given to the best head coach of the regular season in both the Men's SBL and Women's SBL. In September 2014, Basketball Western Australia announced the naming of the Men's SBL Coach of the Year award as the "John Gardiner Men's Coach of the Year",[1] following Gardiner's death in May 2014.[2] A former Olympian, Gardiner was involved with basketball for more than 50 years as a player, coach and administrator at all levels of the game. He coached more than 400 games and won five MSBL Championships with the Perry Lakes Hawks, including four consecutive between 2001 and 2004.[2]
