"Stars" is a 1991 single by British soul and pop band Simply Red.

Release

"Stars" was originally released in the 1991 album of the same name. The single reached number 8 in the United Kingdom and was successful in some other countries in Europe, as in Denmark where it peaked at number 9. Unlike Simply Red's previous single "Something Got Me Started", "Stars" did not reach the Top 40 in the United States. However, the song did reach number eight in the US Adult Contemporary chart.

Both songs were featured on Simply Red's 1996 compilation album Greatest Hits.

Critical reception

Music & Media wrote about the song: "The title track of their new album has numerous allusions, including references to Mick Hucknal's own road to fame and to the stars in the European flag. This soulful pop song confirms the position of the red-headed singer at the top, close to the galactic stars."[1]
