The St. Sebastian Cathedral[1] (Portuguese: Catedral Metropolitana São Sebastião) Also Ribeirão Preto Cathedral It is the main Catholic church in Ribeirão Preto,[2] a city in the state of São Paulo in Brazil.[3] The building of the Cathedral, together with its surroundings, was declared protected by the Condephaat (council of defense of the historical heritage) in 2014.

The first Church of Ribeirao Preto, also called “velha Matriz”, began to be built in 1866 and finished in 1870. It was in what is now the XV de Novembro Square.

In the late 1800s, after the towers of the building collapsed, the population was called to endow the city of mother church at the height of its importance. Only in 1904 was the first stone laid.
